Trends for makeup, nails and hair are as diverse in 2016 as the clothing trends are. N.Y. stylist and fashion consultant, Christina Kelly, discusses makeup, nail, and hairstyle trends for fall and winter of 2016.
- The eyes say it all This year’s eye makeup is about drama, with heavily eye liners, and artsy and angular winged looks. Glitter also adds a bit of finesse for nighttime looks, with silver, gold and colored glitters applied near the edges or corners of eyes, or below the brow line. Dark, smoky eyes continue to reign, while powdery blue eye shadows and neon palettes also make their way into this year’s hottest looks.
- Give some lip service Rich colors in plums, vibrant purples, deep reds and black take center stage this fall in both matte and deep, shiny, lacquered looks.
- How to nail the nails The modern French manicure is in high demand this year. The new takes on this classic style vary from multicolored French, such as plum nail beds with black trim, and clear nails with colored trim, to reverse french manicures. Reverse French styles are popular with clear nails to the tip, and color triangles which start at the cuticle and pointing upwards. Also growing in popularity is trim lining the entire nail bed as well as across the top of the nail. Nail shapes vary from rounded, natural tips, to narrowing at the tip to a point, narrow square, or very narrow oval shape.
- Hot styles for cool tresses Heavily adorned heads with ornate pins, gilded floral patterned barrettes, and hair combs, add romance and flare to any hairstyle this year. Hair styles are popular in a wide range of styles this season, giving women a chance to wear a new style every day of the week. This fall and winter’s hottest hair looks will be crimped tresses, super-sleek 20’s inspired waves, ultra voluminous hair with large curls and backcombing, fringe bangs, and extra long hair. For the season’s hottest updos, try a low ponytail, ballerina buns in either single or double twists, french pleats and creative plaits such as crown wrapped, double braids, and boxer braids.
